Good Morning friends,

How are you? While prices of wheat,rice and corn have fallen from peaks reached earlier this year, still beating historical records, devastating the poor around the world.

The World Development Report 2008 . Agriculture for Development (IDM 2008) published by the World Bank last autumn ,called for boosting agricultural growth and improve crop productivity of staple foods as a way o ensure safety food worldwide.

Current food crisis and analyzes the ways in which agriculture could help to resolve it. The food crisis has put the spotlight on agriculture and its role in development. The urgency of the situation and finding solutions should generate the momentum needed o implement innovative methodologies in the field of crops.

The changing agriculture is characterized  by globalization, technological innovation and institutional high-impact and new functions of the State private sector and civil society.

Agriculture offers new opportunities for development, by they are different form those of the past.

  1. Hhmmm…Interesting suggestions on how to help alleviate world hungry/poverty. I wonder, though, if the World Bank considers how the US’s subsidies for corn, soy, etc. effect the world market. It’s got to be tough for some countries to sell its local food when the US floods the market with subsidized corn products. Being able to create a local agricultural economy is the basis of independence, and is something technology can support, not replace.
